Are you interested in contributing your time as a volunteer message board moderator? This is a perfect opportunity to become involved in the Conscious Island community.

A moderator is a person who is given certain administrative powers and tasks to help keep parts of the message board running smoothly and organized. These tasks can include moving, editing or deleting posts and topics, answering questions from users, participating in discussions, and conflict resolution.

Our message board is meant as a place of open-minded, intelligent, thought-provoking discussions in an atmosphere of maturity, respect and consideration. As such, our moderators must be kind, approachable, and grounded.

As a moderator, you would commit to logging in to the message board on certain days a week as agreed with management.

You will read posts in the forums you've been assigned, and post/respond often to keep the message board active. Your reponsibility is to ensure that our website users feel inviting comfort when visiting our website.

Given the nature of the Internet, there are always a select few who choose to try to compromise others' comfort with junk posts, "flaming", and otherwise trying to disturb the peace. We require that our moderators have a high level of Internet maturity to deal with potentially volatile situations with unpretentious authority: promptly, calmly and effectively.

We prefer that our moderators have familiarity and knowledge of message board systems in general. Preferrably you are a regular user or moderator/administrator of message boards, group lists or similar, or have been in the past. Experience is helpful, but may not be necessary if you're the right person for our moderator positions.
